My first reaction is that this is a straight forward, logical approach and I do not understand the Bishop's concern. I understand their incremental approach but, it seems to me, that is based on the assumption that abortion, in particular Roe vs Wade cannot be overturned. Yet most scholars believe that Roe vs Wade is bad (legally speaking not from an abortion ideology) law. As a Catholic, I am puzzled and feel the Bishops need to educate their flock as to what is wrong with the personhood approach and why we should settle for incremental steps. With the Obama administration and such great catholics as Speaker Pelosi leading the way, abortion will soon be a general, government funded practise. The states need to step up and resist this tragedy, assuming the "state" wishes to do so. This is the first time I have visited the personhood site. However I also believe we need to stop seperating this issue with race, the ethnicity of the baby who has thier life ended at the hands of the abortion factories is not as significant as the act itself. I believe the best way to change this is to change the way young people think about sex, we need to start teaching them again the importance of respect not only for themselves, but more importantly the repect for the life they may be helping to create by thier actions. We need to also teach the young men of our nation that there are consiquenceses to thier actions as well. But most of all we as Christians have to stop being quiet about this terrible outrage on the smallest and least defensible citizens of our society.
