Liberty Counsel and the Florida Family Policy Council will present four Pastors’ Freedom Forums featuring Duke Westover, Former Executive Assistant to Dr. Jerry Falwell Sr., and Harry Mihet, Senior Litigation Counsel for Liberty Counsel, who lived under a repressive Communist regime in Romania. In addition, the first and second Forums will also feature Mathew Staver, Founder of Liberty Counsel and Dean of Liberty University School of Law, and the third and fourth Forums will include John Stemberger, President and General Counsel of Florida Family Policy Counsel. My children heard firsthand how the Lord closed down abortuaries, saved souls, and rescued babies. Their heritage of Rescue was greatly strengthened by meeting Lawrence and Alene Reves, old friends and jail mates of mine. We celebrated in Brevard County, a very populated area where all abortuaries have been closed for over ten years. Jay Rogers, Pat McEwen, Patty Laite, and the Pinkstons told of the history of what it took to remove the scourge of local slaughter houses.

We visited Ed Martin in Jacksonville, the faithful veteran of many rescues who still is on the streets evangelizing. As well as beloved old friends, our kids got to meet the tremendous sidewalk counselors Patte Smith and Allura Lightfoot while watching them minister in front of an Orlando death pit where sometimes babies are born before being murdered http://www.sanctuaryministries.blogspot.com.

We were in Florida to help with the ballot-access petition drive for their Personhood Amendment (www.personhoodflorida.com). Encountering opposition for saving babies wasn’t just old stories for the kids the nights we petitioned outside of the St. Lucie County Fair. The “Fair Association Board” came to “talk to us” accompanied by uniformed officers from the Sheriff’s Department. The director of Personhood Florida, Pastor Bryan Longworth, joined us in gathering signatures, witnessing for Christ, and distributing pro-life literature on County property outside of the gate to the fair.

The organizers of the fair couldn’t understand why we were petitioning and witnessing there, talking about “abortion” to people wanting to have fun. People were signing and taking the literature. Claiming to be “pro-life Christians too,” they denounced us and our peaceful actions. They had even had a few complaints, so they said. We were “officially” asked to leave. We “officially” stayed. They “officially” called higher-ups on the phone. We “officially” called upon the Most High in prayer.

I handed the van keys and phone over to my wife when it appeared that they were ready to haul us off to jail for exercising our freedoms. No, they weren’t impressed by Pastor Bryan’s quotation of the First Amendment part about the right to “petition for redress of grievances.” Thankfully, their leaders told them that we were right and that they couldn’t arrest us just for petitioning. One barking deputy demanded “government-issued-identification” and was irritated when my son respectfully declined, “I’m thirteen and don’t have any.” They really didn’t like it when we recorded their “official” conversation.

One of the voters who signed (amidst the interruptions from the officials) thanked us profusely, “I was rescued from abortion. Give me some blanks so I can help too. Thank you so much!”

Those nights at the fair, seeing a courageous pastor stand calmly against tyranny, etched upon the souls of my children how to live: free in Christ. When Pastor Bryan told them later of his past rescues and having spent a total amount of three years in various jails for saving babies, they knew they were in the presence of real faith. Those stories, that faith, combined with what they had just seen and experienced, deepened their Rescue roots. My prayer is for those roots to produce much fruit. “Dad, when do we get to do big Rescues and shut down more death-pits?”

From riding in Ron Brock’s Truth Truck to displaying signs to passing out boxes of petitions, our whole family was greatly blessed by participating with one of America’s most effective ministry groups.

We skipped Disney World to experience the real world – the spiritual and cultural wars in Florida, while our kids had a great time standing for Jesus and the babies.

Hi Everyone:

It seems you all have been asking how to contact Tea Parties. Here is the way I did it – perhaps this will help.

First locate the tea party in your area – search the web for your local group enter – tea party your county or city. ( I entered Tea Party Brevard, my county and options showed groups in a number of towns in Brevard.) I went to the site of two cities near me and read what their site said. Hey offered an opportunity to sign up for “meet up” groups. I signed up for two cities here ( Palm Bay & Melbourne) to get e-mails for happenings. That is how I learned about the Thursday Tea Party.

Then when you know when the activity is happening call the info number or e-mail the info e-mail address to ask for opportunities to have a table. I purchased one for $25. You do not need the table but it makes you an “official” part of the tea party and they may allow you to announce your “cause” from the platform. By all means volunteer to help them set up. They probably will have lots of help but will appreciate the offer. If they ask, tell them your cause is Personhood Florida and you want to protect all persons old young and in between. ( They don’t like the new health care bill so they like causes that will protect people.)

Then go – arrive early to work the crowd before. Start near the platform and work back. They will not mind you asking them to sign because they are probably bored waiting for things to start. The thing we have in common with these folks is the health care issue. Personhood protects the unborn and the aged. Many of them are afraid of the health care reform and what it will do to their service. Comment on any signs they have- be friendly! Have a great time. Work the crowd after the speakers. Have fun.

There will be many of these sorts of events all year so check your e-mails for info from the “meet up” group so you know when and where they are.

I also mentioned the gun shows. Lots of people – not all pro life but many you can ask and almost all are friendly. The management who put on these shows are almost universally willing to let candidates and “causes” stand at the door and petition. Search for Florida Gun shows on web call the info number and just ask permission as a courtesy –Tell them who you are ( Personhood Florida) and that you are petitioning – THEY WILL SAY YES! Be friendly – have fun!

For those wondering what to say:

Basically you say: Would you like to sign a Pro-life petition?

As they come forward I ask them, Are you a Florida registered voter?

If they say YES I say: This is a Constitution Amendment petition that will define the pre-born, the elderly and the disabled as persons so they have the right to life.

Usually I am not able to say more than that because there are other people to get signatures from! But I always have the “Volunteer Form” on a separate clipboard so if they have extra questions or act interested I can “put them on our email list”. This way I can establish a relationship with them later and still keep getting signatures.

If they say “No” I ask them to go to PersonhoodUSA.com and find their state because we are in 41 states!!!! Glory to God Almighty!!!!!

Have fun with it! Glory to God for His Mercy and Grace! Go in prayed up and realize that groups are trying to infiltrate the parties and make them look bad. Be “wise as serpents and innocent as doves.” Go looking American, clean and patriotic, bring your video cameras and use them to document how friendly, orderly and fun we are! Be part of making His Story.

The next stop was in an African American community located near the North Miami Pregnancy Help Medical Clinic, a prolife pregnancy center that I was able to tour in October with Dr Johnny Hunter and Dr O’Niel Dozier. A representative from the center came out and thanked the missionaries for coming out to stand for life in a neighborhood where Planned Parenthood targets black babies for abortion. The missionaries had reloaded their supply of material and were able to pass out more literature.

The next stop was supposed to be at the 163rd St Mall, but we changed the intersection yesterday. As with the other stops, God’s providence prevailed. It so happened that traffic leading to the 163rd St mall was blocked off for blocks in all directions due to a strange bag left at a bank. The missionaries meanwhile were busy holding signs, passing out literature, and meeting friends and foe at another busy intersection in an upscale area of North Miami.

Tomorrow, the Personhood Tour will be in Ft Lauderdale, West Palm, and Port St Lucie. Wednesday, the tour will be in Orlando and Daytona Beach before ending in Jacksonville Thursday. A few post abortive women have contacted me with concerns over the signs. Please know that the signs do include pictures of born and preborn children as well as aborted babies. We don’t mean to condemn anyone. We want post abortive women to know that full confession leads to full forgiveness in Jesus Christ. Jesus loves you, and we love you. The signs are not meant to condemn anyone for past actions. Rather our message is simply: If abortion is so horrible that we can’t stand to look at pictures of the mutilated babies, should we really tolerate it? I say no! It’s time to end abortion and protect women and children from the horrors of abortion.
