A rape is an awful, heinous crime, of which the rapist is guilty and should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. When rape results in pregnancy, however, we must remember that the child did nothing worthy of punishment or execution! As many rape and abortion victims are saying, “The rape was horrible, but do not allow the mommy to become a murderer!  That is much worse!”

I have actually spoken and listened to many women who confess their sin of abortion and weep with me. The women I have spoken with that have been affected by rape have said the following:

  • One woman shared, “the abortion was worse than the rape.”
  • Another woman shared, “I was not healed until I was able to give my baby to a childless couple.”
  • A third woman wept as she pondered, “Why could I not find one Christian person to help me have my child?  I could not murder my own child!  The rape was horrible, I almost died- there was blood everywhere- I fought so hard!  I could not believe that I got pregnant.  But I could not murder my child and NO ONE would help me because I would not murder my child!”
  • The fourth was Rebecca Kiessling, a family attorney who was conceived by rape, as she looked Gov. Perry straight in the eye and asked, “How can you say that my life does not have worth?!”  (He was converted on the spot and gave testimony at the ProLife Presidential Forum.)

If a woman is raped, it does not negate the fact that God is still on the throne and that He still says of any individual conceived,

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you”  Jeremiah 1:5a.

John Locke, one of our Founding Fathers’ Founding Fathers, explains this best in “Of Civil Government” in Chapter 2 “Of the State of Nature” paragraph 6:

“…The state of nature has a law of nature to govern it, which obliges every one: and reason, which is that law, teaches all mankind, who will but consult it, that being all equal and independent, no one ought to harm another in his life, health, liberty, or possessions: for men being all the workmanship of one omnipotent, and infinitely wise maker; all the servants of one sovereign master, sent into the world by his order, and about his business; they are his property, whose workmanship they are, made to last during his, not one another’s pleasure.”

We do loathe the way a baby conceived by rape was created, but she is created by our Creator, and it is not our place as mere humans to usurp our Creator’s purposes for her, as  she is not our property but God’s.  We are not to impose our purpose on her as she is God’s workmanship.  We are not to harm her, but let her be about God’s business as you see that Lori Hoye and Rebecca Kiessling are in the above pictures.  Both of these precious women were conceived in rape.

What is compassionate?  Doesn’t it seem wrong that presently many counsel rape victims to have an abortion?  In that “solution”, we are abandoning the mom, killing the innocent child, and letting the rapist go free!  Isn’t this a gross injustice?!

A few more women share their hearts and experience about rape and abortion:

“I delivered my little baby girl into a bed pan.  She was fully formed and perfect, but she was still and silent.  I was shocked as I looked at what people told me was just a blob of tissue.  It was as if I was waiting for her to start crying, still hoping she was alive.  I felt an emptiness that nothing could fill, and quickly discovered that the aftermath of abortion continued a long time after the memory of the rape had dimmed.1

“One violent, cruel act doesn’t justify another…  Does one deserve to die because of the way that she was conceived, because of the sin of her father?”2

“Abortion does not un-rape a woman.” 3

What if we re-think our strategy as Laura Gainey shares as a rescued mom, “When I found out I was pregnant, I was in an unhealthy, abusive relationship. I did not know Jesus and was not living righteous by any means. I was hardened by the ways of the world which made me extremely abortion-vulnerable. By the grace of God I ended up in a prolife crisis pregnancy center where they planted a seed in me that has never stopped growing. They planted the seed of God’s unfailing love for me and for my baby. At first I still wanted an abortion, I thought I would have to live with suffering from my decision to have the baby and be stuck in a mentally and physically abusive relationship. I thought that if I chose to have the baby I would be faced with even more suffering in raising a child alone. Since I didn’t know the power of God’s love, that option seemed more painful to me than the decision to abort my baby and live with the consequences of what I had done for the rest of my life. Thankfully in my case, the love and compassion I received from the crisis pregnancy center softened my heart and I was able to choose life.

“The point I want to make though is this – when I look at my son, I do not think about the things his father did to me…  What covers us and heals our pain is LOVE. The Bible says, ‘…above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins’ (1 Peter 4:8). … We have to cover the sin with love and be the answer to her pain. We have to offer ourselves up as tools for the Holy Spirit to work through and show these women that there are still good and loving people in this world, especially when so many others have betrayed them… like Peter says, above all we need to love each other DEEPLY because love is the only thing that will cover this sin.”

Isn’t this true, especially true for our little sisters, friends, daughters, daughters’ friends who might be so victimized!  Do not they need the same love that we would offer any other precious woman in a crisis pregnancy?  Is abortion ever the “answer”?  EVER?
